Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road will be completed by March 2017: Martin

Shillong, October 12:  PWD minister Mr Martin M Danggo along with the official from the Public Work Department, went to inspect the constriction work of Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road starting from Rangskhen in East Khasi hills up to Williamnagar in East Garo Hills.

Mr Danggo who has just taken over as PWD minister, he personally inspect this road, since this is an important road to the state connecting the Khasi Hills and the Garo Hills region. Once this road is completed the movement of people will be made easier.

The minister is satisfied with the progress of the construction of this road starting from Rangskhen in East Khasi Hills District up to williamnagar, in East Garo Hills District, in spite of many hurdle the construction company has to face, yet the progress of work  for the construction of this 264.3 km road is in progress.

The Minister said that the work construction has been completed 90 percent, what is left only in the East Khasi Hills region due to the By Pass from Sohiong to Lad Mawreng, and the new Land Acquisition Act that come into force but  this portion will be completed before March 2017.

In the original sanction for the construction of this 264.3 km road is is Rs.1494 cores and after the revise estimate the total cost of this projected at the cost of Rs. 2023 cores and the completion period has been extended to March 2017 till Lad Mawreng junction.

The construction  work is executed by the Hyderabad-based company BSC-C&C JV. The work started in 2011 and the target date for completion is on March 2014, but due to many unavoidable circumstances this company could not complete the project at the stipulated time frame.
