St. Edmund’s College Students visited OrchidariumofIBSD at Upper Shillong, Meghalaya

Shillong, May 19: Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Node Meghalaya, welcomed the St. Edmund’s College students along with faculty membersfor their educational visit. Students observed the different phyto-resources particularly various types of Orchid species available in the Orchidarium.

Students were acquainted with the various activities of the IBSD along with the importance of local bioresources, their sustainable utilization and generating livelihood out of them. Students made aware about the BIRAC BioNESTscheme, particularly inspired for startup program through the value addition of local bioresources.

The activities of sensitization of young mind of students is supported by the guidance and initiative of the Director, IBSD, Prof.Pulok K. Mukherjee to promote awareness of local bio-resources and their utilization towards sustainable development.

IBSD head office at Imphal, regional centre at Gangtok and the two nodes, each at Shillong and Aizawl are organising such activitiesto inculcate scientific temperament among students to gain exposure to research environment and motivate them to pursue research in various field of life sciences and awareness about local Bioresources.
