Shillong, August 11: Though construction of Border Food Lights has been completed at many places but lack of power supply has also encouraged these criminals to take their chances and breach the fence. The BSF has been approaching Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited to provide power supply at the earliest possible to the Flood lights which is pending since long.
The BSF troops once again seized 32 Nos Cattle from the bordering area of Gujangapara, South West Garo Hills Distt of Meghalaya while being smuggled into Bangladesh from India. No sooner did troops of BSF reached at the spot, smugglers fled away taking advantage of darkness. In similar instances the attempts of smugglers were foiled in Tuka and Lyngkhat, East Khasi Hills Distt area where 9 more cattle were seized by the BSF troops. Recently the cases of cattle smuggling in the area of Muktapur, Nayabazar, Tuka, Pyrdwah, Nongjuri, Baldamgiri, Duplipara, Sibbari and Beldova have increased. Border Security Force has been putting extra vigil to curb this illegal act. Smugglers have been using various tactics to smuggle cattle from roads going towards border from Shillong, Jowai and Garobadha areas.
Sudden increase in cattle smuggling has resulted in the reciprocal alertness on the part of the sentinels of border also. The involvement of local criminals with Bangladeshi smugglers has always been a great cause of concern for the border guards. These trans-border criminals not only trespass into Indian territory but also damage the Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence with fence cutting tools causing loss to Govt. Property.
In addition, the BSF has also seized 347 btls of Phensdyle, 93 Cattle, approx. 505 Cft Wooden logs, Ganja 5 Kgs, Liquor 205 bttls, and other contraband items worth more than 27 Lacs, while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh on the International Border along Meghalaya during last week.
