Shillong, Dec 08: After Lockdown, recurrent seizures by the vigil BSF troops exhibit the surge in attempt of smuggling at International border. Although BSF of Meghalaya keep on belying the expectations of smugglers time to time through its grueling efforts and brisk actions.
Today the watchful BSF troops deployed at BOP Muktapur of 30 Bn, West Jantia Hills Distt of Meghalaya intercepted 58 country made boats carrying 45,000 kgs of Dry pea, entering inside the Indian territory through Lakra river.
The boats were just about to unload the smuggling stuff carried by them and hand over the consignment to their Indian counterparts before they got nabbed by BSF near village Lakra basti. Seized boats and dry peas worth more than Rupees 68 lakhs.
Recent seizures of Dry pea along with vehicles and apprehension of Smugglers, prompted smuggling syndicates to adopt route through water instead of using road to get succeed in their nefarious motives.
Indo-Bangladesh border with Meghalaya State interspersed with riverine, dense forests, hilly terrain and being partially unfenced provides ideal conditions for all kind of smuggling but BSF troops are well determined in and devoted to their task.
Mr. U. K. Nayal, Public Relation Officer of BSF Ftr HQ Meghalaya said that such type of smugglings have potential to distort the economy of any nation and may hit the livelihood of Indian producers. He further stated that such operations will be continued in future also against all types of smuggling and Border violation.
