The HITO has written “open letter” to the Chief Minister Govt of Assam on border Dispute

Shillong, August 01: The Organsation HITO has written an “Open Letter” to the Chief Minister Government of Assam Mr. HemantaBiswa Sharma, on the boundary issue with the others North Eastern State, the letter state.

Dear Sir, We write this open letter to you to ventilate the feelings of the people of Meghalaya over the priorities you have set to achieve your goal of a developed Assam at the cost of inclusive development of the peaceful region.

Without malice or prejudice, HITO has observed many flaws in your governance which has only resulted in grave injustice to our people residing along the border areas with Assam.

We strongly condemn the ongoing border dispute and the elder sister stance adopted by the Government of Assam as seen from recent incidents both along the interstate boundaries with Meghalaya and Mizoram in which unfortunately six security personnel lost their precious lives in the line of duty.

The incident acts as a grim reminder of the incident at Langpih about a decade ago in which civilians lost their precious lives at Langpih village in West Khasi Hills District.

We extend out our hearts to our Mizo brothers and sisters who stood firm on their God given land they inherited from their forefathers. Their unmatched unity at such times of crisis has established a new benchmark for the rest of the Northeast, you will agree.

HITO also stands firmly committed to protecting our sacred motherland. Since the time of the valiant Ahom kings, the indigenous population across the Northeastern states have been happily co-habiting the vast land given by the Almighty to their forefathers.

But sadly, the current dispensation in Assam is trying to break this peaceful co-existence by pushing through its hateful ideology which will only create a hateful divide between the peace loving people of the region.

We believe in history and we stand united with our brothers and sisters of the northeast. Under no condition will we allow you to sow the seeds of division amongst us which your Hindutva agents are trying desperately to achieve without any success. Please be reminded that communal politics will only reap what it sows.

Your false announcements and promises through the media to hide the actual truth of your intentions and actions is well known and using peoples’ lives to achieve greatness which is unworthy, shameful and far from gallant will only result in your utter failure even as the truth is slowly becoming apparent now.

Perhaps one day, the blood of the innocent lives shed for your evil pursuits will not only return to haunt you but hopefully destroy you in a similar if not worse manner.

HITO further iterates that the Hynñiewtrep people will not permit any divisive force to prevail over the kindred shared under the umbrella of the Indian Union.

May we remind you that the Hynñiewtrep are peace loving people, but when it comes to defending our land and our people we will not hesitate to take to any means necessary for the common good. Leadership is Action not Contemplation.

Repeatedly your government has disrupted the otherwise peaceful border areas of our land and all your lip service of solution is no longer concealed. For example your motive to establish a University in Khanduli besides inaugurating a police outpost in Saba and recently the skirmish with local residents of Iongkhuli over erection of MeECL electricity poles is clearly visible even to the layman.

It appears you want to ensure trouble continues to foment in these areas so you can achieve your nefarious plans to the fullest. Furthermore, your lack of comprehension of our God given ethnic culture and indigenous way of life is another knock-back to misunderstandings being sorted out amicably. Instead of trying to usher in unity, you are furthering divisions amongst us.

Matters are constantly being manipulated and thus getting murkier and compounding the vacuum is a total lack of communication in key areas of concern. This gives rise to misinformation, lies based on divisive agendas and this obviously leads only to one conclusion – the destruction of precious lives and generations.

Dear CM Sir, being leader of the biggest State in the Northeast does in no manner signify or leave alone, make you stronger. Your policies and style of governance should instead set a benchmark for the other sister states and little brother state Sikkim. Be aware Sir, politics carved on the principles of caste and creed is a cancer and if left untreated, it out rightly spells doomsday for this fabled land.

You will concur with the fact that all misadventures of yours such as regular encroachment of neighbouring states’ precious land only furthers hatred and enmity between fellow human beings who have dwelt as brothers and sisters since eons. Is this the role model you want Assam (which you often refer as ‘Big Sister’) to be for other states to emulate? Perhaps that is the question which only you can answer truthfully.

We firmly believe that there is an urgent need to discuss, consult, deliberate and rewrite the interstate boundaries between Assam and Meghalaya once and for all. Echoing the sentiments of your own party colleague and our BJP minister Shri SanborShullai, it is no longer the time to sit across the table and have tea but time to act on the ground.

It is time to show the people what a true elder brother is. Let that be your legacy Mr. Chief Minister. Yours sincerely while wishing you well, Shri. Donbok Dkhar President and Shri. Wanbun N Dkhar general secretary.
