The Madhukar Gupta Committee of NSCS visit first line of defence

Shillong, December 15: Mr  Madhukar Gupta Committee of NSCs for strengthening the Indo-Bangladesh border during its three days visit to Meghalaya visited Border Security Force Out Posts Baghmara and Gumaghat to have a feel of first line of Defence.

The high level committee which arrived at Shillong on Wednesday comprising Shri Madhukar Gupta, Chairman of NSCS, Shri K. Vijay Kumar, Senior Security Advisor/MHA, Shri Ashok Prasad, Advisor Technology of MHA, Shri Arvind Kumar, OSD, Joint Secretary and NSCS, and Dr. Shivannanda H, Asstt Director of NSCS. Sh. R P Singh, IPS Addl DG BSF, Eastern Command, Kolkata also accompanying the committee.  On the arrival at Ftr HQ Meghalaya BSF, Sh. P K Dubey, Inspector General briefed the committee about the prevailing security scenario at border as well as Meghalaya State and presented the essence of security grid between various agencies involved in national security.

The committee was apprised of the co-ordination between the agencies in managing the Indo-Bangladesh border, Border Haats, ICPs Land Custom Stations and various other issues pertaining to infrastructural developments for effective border guarding. A detailed requirement for plugging existing gaps due to rivers nullahs, topographical hazards etc with the help of technological solutions was also projected before the committee by the Inspector General Border Security Force Meghalaya Frontier.

The Committee visited the Border Out Post Baghmara, Baghmara CP 141 Bn BSF and Gumaghat 11 Bn BSF. A briefing about the border domination and the security situation at border given by Commandants of both the BSF Battalions. During the visit, Shri Madhukar Gupta and other Committee members interacted with the BSF Jawans.

Taking the pulse of the First Line of Defence the Chairman & members spoke to every single jawan and encouraged them with motivational speech. The Committee members also visited the Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence at Baghmara, Gaps due to Simsang and Jadukata rivers. The committee also interacted with the representatives of civil administration, Police, Customs and other agencies at Baghmara and Gumaghat.
