Shillong March 18:Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) under the Department of Labour, Employment and Skill Development Government of Meghalaya has organised “Skillerate Connecting 2025”.
This is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at bridging the gap between skill development and employment opportunities, was inaugurated today at Kynshi Football Ground by Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and Shri Shakliar Warjri, Minister of Labour, Employment & Skill Development.
Organized by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) under the Department of Labour, Employment, and Skill Development, the two-day event, scheduled for March 17-18, 2025, is designed to empower the youth by creating a robust platform for skill development, employment, and entrepreneurship.
In her inaugural address, Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh highlighted the pivotal role of MSSDS since its establishment. She emphasized the government’s mission to make Meghalaya’s communities self-reliant by promoting skill development, fostering entrepreneurship, and producing a skilled workforce. The Minister announced that three additional training centres will be set up in Eastern West Khasi Hills in the next financial year 2025-26.
Shri Shakliar Warjri, the Hon’ble Minister of Labour, Employment, and Skill Development, underscored the significance of such initiatives in bridging the skill gap and building a future-ready workforce.
He stated that MSSDS delivers training across all districts of the state and acknowledged that unemployment is a pervasive social issue affecting not only Meghalaya but also the global community. To address this challenge, Skillerate Connect was established under MSSDS to nurture and promote talent by providing youth with training in various fields.
Smt Anita Kharpor, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Eastern West Khasi Hills, delivered the welcome speech. Additionally, trainees who benefited from MSSDS shared their testimonials. Veronica Lyngdoh Peinlang, a trainee from Mawroh, Eastern West Khasi Hills, described the training as a “golden opportunity” and commended MSSDS for providing free, prerequisite training.
Kyrshanborlang Marbaniang, a commis chef, testified that the establishment of the Northeast Institute of Professional Studies (NeIPS) was a turning point in his life. He expressed gratitude to MSSDS for funding NeIPS, which has significantly shaped and refined his skills.
Skillerate Connect anticipates participation from 2,000 youth across the district, making it a significant step toward skill empowerment. The event features over 60 exhibition stalls, showcasing products from local artisans, entrepreneurs, and MSMEs, further promoting self-employment and economic sustainability.
