Shillong, March 07: A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) strongly condemns the shameful and irresponsible conduct of the MLAs from Garo Hills who, despite being elected by the people of Garo Hills, have betrayed their mandate by rejecting the motion for a Winter Capital in Tura.
This is not just a political failure but a direct attack on the legitimate aspirations and rights of the people of Garo Hills the organisation term as a historic betrayal said the press statement issued to the media houses from the organisation today.
The demand for a Winter Capital in Tura is not an unreasonable or new demand but a rightful call for administrative decentralization and equitable governance in Meghalaya. Shillong, as the sole capital, has led to severe developmental neglect of Garo Hills, resulting in poor infrastructure, lack of direct policy implementation, and an unfair concentration of government offices and facilities in one region.
ACHIK term that by rejecting this motion, the MLAs from Garo Hills have, failed to represent the Interests of their own people, Instead of standing for regional equity and justice, they have chosen to prioritize their political alliances and personal gains over the welfare of Garo Hills.
Surrendered to Political Pressure, rather than fighting for the rights and aspirations of their constituents, they have aligned with forces that continue to treat Garo Hills as a secondary region in Meghalaya.
Violated the Trust of the People, The people of Garo Hills elected them with the expectation that they would advocate for development, fairness, and equal governance, but they have betrayed this trust. ACHIK refuses to let this betrayal go unnoticed.
ACHIK thry will hold public representatives accountable, they will publicly expose the names of the MLAs who voted against the motion and demand an explanation from them.
They Mobilize the People for Justice, they will organize protests, awareness campaigns, and democratic demonstrations to ensure the demand for a Winter Capital in Tura remains at the forefront.
They will explore Legal and Constitutional Measures: We will petition the Governor, the President of India, and other constitutional bodies to intervene and ensure decentralization of governance in Meghalaya.
Push for Political Consequences, the MLAs who have voted against their own people will face the consequences in the next elections. They urge the people of Garo Hills to remember this betrayal and reject such leaders in the future.
The people of Garo Hills will never forget this betrayal, they were not elected to serve Shillong-based political interests they were chosen to fight for your own land and people. Your failure will not go unchallenged, and history will remember you as the ones who turned your backs on the very people who trusted you.
The fight for a Winter Capital in Tura is not over. ACHIK, along with the people of Garo Hills, will continue to demand justice and equitable governance. We call upon every citizen of Garo Hills to unite, question, and hold accountable those who have failed us.
