Bangladeshi national held in Resubelpara in Garo hills

Tura, July 18: A Bangladeshi national was today apprehended by a group
of local youths from Resubelpara in Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills.
The youths filed an FIR at Resubelpara police station and handed over
the person identified as Alamin Mohammad to the police.
Mohammad has revealed that he is from Somapur in Bangladesh. “His
movement was suspicious, so we decided to question him. He has
revealed his identity as he was scared to see so many local youths
interrogating him”, said a release issued by Garo Students Union,
North Garo Hills unit.
Police told us that he will be produced in the court.
Taking a dig at rising infiltration in North Garo Hills, an activist
of the student union, Takin Arengh said, “The illegal migrants are
like ants. They will work here and take away our wealth and even our
sisters and wives. It is the responsibility of the government to
ensure that illegal migrants are not entertained”.
Stating that the migrants take advantage of the flood and seek refuge
in the hills, Arengh said, “If the situation is not controlled it will
become grim by day”.
He also stated that the migrants enter India illegal through Mancachar
in Assam’s Dhubri district and migrate through Lower Assam districts
to North Garo Hills.
“They come here as civil worker, laborer, masonry, businessman, even
like a beggar to seek opportunities. When they get some ground to
stand, they settle down here. They are a threat to our national
interest”, he added.
Urging the government to take infiltration issue seriously, the GSU
asked the government to ensure strict vigilant in infiltration check
gates and immigration check points.(SP News)
