Citizens who are yet to receive COVID-19 vaccinations to get themselves vaccinated

Mairang, August 31: As part of the countrywide observance of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav-India@75, the office of the BDO, Mairang C&RD Block in collaboration with the Village Employment Councils(VECs) of Mairang C&RD Block today organized a Block Level Awareness programme at U Tirot Sing Memorial Hall, Pyndengumiong, Mairang.

The programme was attended by Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker and Local MLA, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh as Chief Guest in the presence of KHADC EM in charge Elaka Administration and Pariong-Mawthadraishan MDC, Shri Jambor War who attended the programme as the Guest of Honour.

Among others present during the programme were Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge Mairang Civil Sub –Division, Shri A. Nongbri, Block Development Officer, Mairang C&RD Block, Shri V. Swer, officials representing various government departments, Headmen as also Chairmen and Secretaries of VECs under Mairang Block.

During the programme, resource persons representing departments of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Fishery, Health &Family Welfare and representatives of Meghalaya Rural Bank, Mairang Branch during their speeches highlighted on the various schemes and programmes concerning their respective sectors including schemes under MGNREGA, PMAY, NRLM and others.

In his address during the programme, Chief Guest, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh expressed happiness to be associated with the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with the day’s Block Level Awareness programme having provided a platform for government departments to create mass awareness on the different schemes and programmes of the government aimed at the welfare of the citizens of the State.

Mr. Lyngdoh took the occasion to call upon the participants gathered at the programme to reap the benefits of the awareness programme with resource persons and experts drawn from various government departments and financial institutions.

Speaking on the COVID-19 situation, Shri Lyngdoh urged upon citizens who are yet to receive COVID-19 vaccinations to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest as vaccination is the only weapon to help contain the spread of Covid-19 in the State and Country.

Meanwhile,  Guest of Honour,  KHADC EM in charge Elaka Administration, Shri Jambor War stated that the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav provides an opportunity for the country to honour the valour and sacrifice of its freedom fighters including U Tirot Sing Syiem, u Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma of the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills respectively.

The Mahotsav provides an opportunity for the country to celebrate its development strides in various sectors during the last 75 years since India gained its independence from British rule. The programme also featured skits and patriotic songs performed by artistes representing different VECs of Mairang Block.
