College union protest JM Lyngdoh recommendation

Tura, Aug 21: The Tura government college students’ union (TGCSU) today
launched its indefinite strike against J M Lyngdoh recommendation for
election to its student body.

As per the recommendation, a student who seeks election to students’ body
should have 75 per cent attendance and should be between 17 – 22 years. It
also prohibits students from Class XI and XII.

“There are close to 2000 students in Class XI and XII. They should not be
deprived from contesting”, said Balkarin Ch. Marak, general secretary of
TGCSU.

The students’ body felt that the JM Lyngdoh recommendation should be
repealed. “The college body has allowed students of Class XI and XII since
1958 and it should not be changed”, said Dikki Marak, a member of the
student’s union.
