In Meghalaya only 59 persons were appointed in Govt department under PwDs Act: Dr Pandey

Shillong, February 10: Dr Kamlesh Kumar Pandey Chief  Commissioner  for person with disabilities government  of India after his review meeting with government  official of the state government of Meghalaya and with the NGOs from the state  he found that  only 59 person were appointed in Government  department  under the Person with Disabilities (PWD) Act.

Speaking to media person today Dr Pandey said during the review meeting with state government official it was reveal that around 800 person are eligible for government job under this PwDs Act but the state government till date has appointed only 59 persons  from the quota of 3% reserved for them.

The Chief Commissioner Dr Pandey said that he will compile the report and submitted to the Chief Secretary Government of Meghalaya for implementation of various scheme under taken by the Central and the state government. He appreciate that the state government has appointed full-fledged state Commissioner and at the same time he is not satisfied with the temporary staff under this office.

Highlighting on the new  amendment act, Dr Pandy said that  this new act the commission has the power of persecution to any  person who are  misbehave with disability person,  State Government has to designate special judge to look into the cases related to disable persons in all the District in the state.

Under the new Act, Right to Persons With Disabilities Act, 2016, categories of disabilities have been increased to twenty one from seven earlier, and job reservation has been change to 4% from the 3%. As per census of 2011, Meghalaya recorded 44317 persons with disabilities and out this  35515 have been issued with disabilities certificate.
