Guwahati, March 26: The Guwahati Food Awards 2019 ended on glam note with over 300 people gathered on the gala night held on Saturday last at Hotel Vivanta by Taj. Participating restaurant owners, numerous chefs and dignitaries united to celebrate the exceptional food crafters.
The awards are an initiative aimed at recognizing the best in the city’s food & beverage industry. The contest comprised of 150 participants that included various restaurants, cafes, lounge bars, bakeries, catering service providers and fast food eateries amongst others. The occasion was graced by important personalities of the city like Minister Shri Pijush Hazarika, Smt. Monalisa Goswami, Rishi Baruah and many others.
The 33 winners rose to the top amongst entries on the basis of pre-determined criteria set by the jury panel which included Chef Faruk Ahmed – winner of GFA Chef of the Year 2016, Dr. Geeta Dutta, an ethnic food enthusiast and Aabhishek Bedi Varma, a former chef of Taj Group of Hotels, headed by renowned food critic and author of Times Food Guide, Mr. Suresh Hinduja. A record number of over 1,50,000 people voted for their favourite restaurants through the Guwahati Food Awards website and mobile app.
The awards night had as its chief guest, 𝐂𝐲𝐫𝐮𝐬 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐚, TV anchor, theatre personality, comedian, political satirist, columnist, podcaster and author as the chief guest and host for the evening this year.

Kalita Spectrum won the most coveted ‘Restaurant of the Year’ award. The award was handed over by Shri Pijush Hazarika, Minister of State Independent Urban Development, Health & Family welfare [State] Govt of Assam and the “Best Home Baker (2019)” of the year went to Neha Agarwal.
