Meat that people consume in the state should be properly screen by the Veterinary Doctor :FKJGP

Shillong, September 6: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) Central Body in a surprised inspection  has expressed its non- satisfaction in the way in which the cleaning process of pig meat is being carried out at the slaughter house located at Thangsning, Jaiaw before shifting the meat to the various markets.

Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Dundee Cliff Khongsit general secretary FKJGP has questioned the state government whether they use to direct veterinary doctors to examine the pigs being brought from various parts of the state including Assam and Uttar Pradesh.

As per his saying it is understood that Veterinary doctors never use to inspect nor examine the livestock before being mass produced into meat and later distributed to various markets to sell to the general public.

“Despite the butchers revealing that the meat is safe for consumption however from the side of the state government like the veterinary department should come and inspect and examine the livestock to make sure that they are safe for consumption,” he said.

According to him, the Federation has taken up this matter seriously since in East Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills there is a large number of people consuming the meat.

On their findings during the inspection, the Federation informed that they will soon take it up with the state government so that the slaughter house will be a clean and the livestock processed into meat are healthy before being distributed to various markets.

Latter the Organization went to cattle market in Khanapara in Ri Bhoi District to inspect the place and to inquired from the merchant about the market weather doctors are examining the animals before transporting to Shillong for consumption.
