Shillong, June 19: The Khasi Student Union (KSU) ha written to the Chairman and Managing Director, North Eastern Electric Power Corporation, Shillong,Meghalaya, opposing the attitude of the corporation for having kept only three examination centre for the North Eastern State for the Written Test announcement by the corporation in their official website, advertisement No. 01/2016.
This has drawn the attention of the student organization to the announcement by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), in its official website for the written tests for the posts of Trainee Engineers (C),Trainee Engineer (E/M), Trainee Personnel Officer and Trainee Accounts Officer to be held on the 26th of June, 2016.Under your chairmanship NEEPCO for the first time has designated seven test centers at Delhi with only three in the North-East.
The KSU said that the unemployment in the state of Meghalaya and other North Eastern states is an overwhelming serious problem which is affecting many spheres of economic and social activities especially among the youth. It has led to frustration and, very often, violence and anti-social activities. If NEEPCO with its headquarter in Shillong shares a genuine concern to provide employment avenues for the North East youths, the centers for the written test should have been located and held only in the North Eastern states .
A perusal of the centers and candidates suggest your blatant attempt to deprive the youth of this region of employment opportunities in NEEPCO contrary to the earlier practice by the NEEPCO Management. The Union cannot remain a silent spectator to your unjustified action and demands the following; The schedule test be immediately cancelled All the tests centre and interviews be located and conducted in the North Eastern state capital only.
The lack of sufficient publicity is apparent from the dismal number of applicants and candidates from the North Eastern states. Re- advertisement with wide and sufficient publicity is fundamental. In conclusion, the Union hopes for a positive response and immediate actions on the points highlighted above failing which we will be force to adopt other methods to get our point across with the co-operation of the North East Students Organization (NESO), a conglomeration of all the students’ organizations of North- East states.
