Shillong, July 27: The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya in a statement issued today has informed that the total number of active COVID-19 positive cases as of 27th July, 2020 in Meghalaya stands at 547. Of the total active Positive COVID-19 cases, majority of the positive cases belong to the BSF cluster followed by the returnees.
In as far as community transmission of COVID-19 virus in the State is concerned, as per definition, “Community transmission means that the COVID-19 virus has become so widespread in a community that it gets difficult, if not impossible, to determine who is passing on the infection to whom”.
However, in case of Meghalaya, the clusters of most cases have been identified through extensive contact tracing exercise and the remaining ones will soon be identified as the contact tracing exercise is underway. As per the assessment of the Health Authorities, there is no Community Transmission suspected.
With respect to the few SARI cases from Shillong detected in H.G Roberts Hospital and cases from Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills and Amlarem, West Jaintia Hills District who were initially tested positive for COVID-19 in RTPCR, it is informed that they were later tested negative in the Rapid Antigen test as well as the RTPCR test.
Moreover, all their primary contacts have been traced and tested and most of their results have been tested as negative. Some results are still awaited. Hence, the possibility of community transmission, by definition as mentioned above, in the area of Khliehriat and Amlarem can be ruled out.
The cluster wise breakup of active COVID-19 cases in the State are, the otal Active cases are 547, total BSF and Armed Forces are 285 and others are 262.
District wise breakup of the active positive cases are, EKH- BSF 243, others 174, Armed Forces 26, Total 443, West Khasi Hills 3, Ri Bhoi 52, Arms forces 9 others 43 total 52.
West Jaintia Hills 10, East Jaintia Hills 15, West Garo Hills 16, BSF 7 others 9. South West Garo Hills 4, South Garo Hills 2, East Garo Hills 1 and North Garo Hills 1. The total number who recovered 186, deceased 5, tatol confirmed cases 738.
Total new positive cases detected up to 3:00 PM today is 36. District wise breakup of the new positive cases are, EKH-32 the BSF 12, Armed Forces 1, Others 19, EJH-02, WGH-01, Ri Bhoi- 01.
