The Air Force donate blood in aid of anaemic pregnant ladies

Shillong, June 18: A voluntary blood donation camp was organised by HQ Eastern Air Command of Indian Air Force, today coinciding with World Blood Donor’s Day.  The camp was held at Station Medicare Centre (SMC), HQ EAC in collaboration with blood transfusion team from Regional Blood Bank (RBB) and Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, Shillong.

The objective of the camp was to encourage Air Force personnel and their dependents to donate blood in aid of anaemic pregnant ladies of the state where infant mortality and maternal mortality rates are higher than the national average.  The camp was inaugurated by President Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Local).

The camp included screening of volunteers by counselling, BP monitoring and HB check followed by collection of whole blood and storage of blood.  Proper safety and hygiene measures were adopted during the camp.The camp drew an overwhelming response from the air warriors and their air warriors and their families. Around 72 personnel registered to donate blood voluntarily on the occasion.
