Shillong, February 11: The BSF troops deployed at Gujangapara, West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya observed some suspicious movement with cattle near International Border. The BSF party encircled the suspected area and squeezed the cordon. As a result one Indian cattle carrier alongwith 40 nos cattle while being smuggled from India to Bangladesh.
The cattle carrier later identified as Rasidul Miya, resident of Tungichar, Ps Mahanderganj, SWGH District. He confessed before BSF that one Josheph Sangma resident of Govintilla village of Mahenderganj, was the main owner of the seized cattle heads. The seized cattle were to be handed over to the Bangladeshi cattle smugglers who are associates of Josheph Sangma.
The cattle smuggling obviously, threatens our security, undermine and destabilize the peace of our border dwelling people and also destroys the moral values in our society. The attempts of cattle smuggling from India to Bangladesh are still going on rampantly and unabatedly keeping the border guards at their toes.
In another incident, the BSF troops deployed at Beldova, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya seized 30 more cattle while being smuggled to Bangladesh. The special operation party of BSF laid a trap while some smugglers along with cattle were proceeding towards Bangladesh through a thickly vegetated area. The BSF troops rushed towards the suspected area before the smugglers could succeed in their nefarious activity; alert Jawans cordoned off the area and recovered a considerable numbers of cattle.
The border security force troops also seized a huge quantity of liquor at the Indo Bangladesh border while being smuggled to Bangladesh in the area of Nongzuri and Bholaganj in East Khasi Hills. A special ambush party seized 1893 bottles of liquor from the spot being smuggled to Bangladesh by the smuggler who escaped taking advantage of darkness and thick vegetation.
