Shillong, March 28: The Villagers of Gumaghat area were facing severe problems in crossing Jadukata river since long. This problem of 10-12 villages of Gumaghat area being faced during rainy season finally recognized and addressed by Border Security Force. Accordingly, Border Security Force took initiative to address their grievance and provided Boat/Ferry service for the civilians of these villages to cross the Jadukata River in area of Gumaghat (South West Khasi Hills distt) Meghalaya on 26th Mar’ 2019.
Mr Kuldeep Saini, Inspector General, Ftr HQ BSF Meghalaya inaugurated the Ferry/Boat service for both passengers as well as vehicle to cross the Jadukata River atGumaghat (South West Khasi Hills) in presence of Nokma of Gumaghat and local residents of Gumaghat and surrounding areas. Locals expressed their gratitude to BSF for providing such type of service for the first time. They also expressed their desire that BSF should continue the good work in future too keeping the welfare needs of border areas.
Series of Civic Action programmes are being conducted by Border Security Force to assist poor bordering villagers, upgrade the existing infrastructure and to create new avenues for bringing positive changes in the life of the local villagers. Several such public outreach programmes are being conducted for maintaining better understanding between the BSF and local populace.
It has always been the endeavour of Border Security Force to help the border population. “Following the trend, this year too BSF will organize more Civic Action Programmes for the needy and under privileged border population residing in far-flung areas along the India–Bangladesh border to bring the feeling of mutual trust among the border population and `Sentinels of border’ which will further assist in smooth management of border.’’ said Sh. Kuldeep Saini, Inspector General of Meghalaya Frontier.
