Shillong, May 19: Shri P K Dubey, Inspector General, BSF Meghalaya Frontier returns after attending Directors General Level Border Coordination Conference between BSF and the BGB which was held at Dhaka from 11th to 16th of this month. The delegation of 20 members was headed by Shri K K Sharma, IPS, Director General, Border Security Force.
The conference is held biannually between the two border guarding forces to discuss the issues related to the border and to maintain peace and tranquility along the International border.
The conference mainly focused on the issues like Indian Insurgent activities in Bangladesh, joint efforts to prevent attacks on BSF personnel by the Bangladesh criminals, smuggling of FICN, Cattle smuggling, illegal migration and Human trafficking, dacoties, theft, abduction of Indian nationals, Border violation and illegal crossing, breaching,damage of IBB fence, issues related with border infrastructure , other trans- border crimes etc.
From BSF side. From the BGB side, Firing, killing and injuring of unarmed Bangladesh nationals by Indian nationals, apprehension of Bangladeshi national, Smuggling of various types of drugs and narcotics, facilitation during bank protection works along the common/border river etc. was deliberated in detail and length.
During the conference DG BSF sought the cooperation from BGB for destruction of hideouts of IIGs in Bangladesh and safe release of Indian Nationals whenever abducted by IIGs. BGB assured that whenever any information is provided by BSF regarding existence of IIGs hideouts, camps, BGB would conduct search and destroy operations along with other forces. A separate note on the activities of Sohan D Shira, C-in-C GNLA and Dristi Rajkhowa, Dy C-in-C of ULFA along with list of hideouts of different Insurgents Groups of North East existing in Bangladesh was also handed over to the counterpart.
BGB delegation also conveyed its concern over the firing on BD nationals by Indian miscreants. DG BSF emphasized that violence at zero line can be brought to lowest level by both the countries with equal participation. Both the sides agreed to take effective steps for prevention of human trafficking, smuggling of arms/amn and other contraband items. Both the countries also agreed for reciprocal exchange visits of school children, friendly competition between both the border guarding forces etc.
