4: A business delegation from Bangladesh today met the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma at Pine Wood Hotel Shillong and discussed on how to improve trade relation with Bangladesh from Meghalaya.
Speaking to media person after the meeting, the Chief Minister said that, in this business meeting they have discusses mainly on four agenda, Power, Mining, Tourism and Health. This meeting is more or less is a follow out action of what we have dicussed.
The Chief Minister said that northern part of Bangladesh they have power deficits and it could be, we have to look the possibility of Bangladesh purchasing power from Meghalaya through Sohra exit and western exit through 132 KV Line subsequently we can up-scaling to 300 or 400 KV but what need is create infrastructure.
Even now we sale power because 24X 7 demand of power is never uniform there are certain time when power is available power to sale and we will also increase our attachment because one of the power project in Arunachal Pradesh is about to be commission very soon. We can also used is as exit corridor to sale to Bangladesh.
On Mining part you are aware that government is already working on a format where Meghalaya Minerals Development Corporation (MMDC) is already designate as government agency to work on with the mines owners where mines owner can inter into agreement with the MMDC and the MDDC will take the responsibility on take all the clearances including mining lease and for further proceed for mining.
When MMDC dose the mining they have to also appoint mine developer in a transparence manner mines development actually do all the necessary for developing the mines and for the extraction of the minerals in conformity with all the statutory laws and they will be paid the amount as to any others contractors.
That is where we required lot of efficient mine developer or mine development organization who have the whole expertise in various kind of mining activities in similar condition these type of partners have already available. In this meeting they have also discuses on health sectors and Tourism sector.
