The MBCC met Urban Affair minister to demand shifting of dumping ground from Mawlai

Shillong, September 0 8: A delegation of the Mawlai Block Congress Committee (MBCC) under the leadership of local MDC and Deputy CEM KHADC, P T Sawkmie on Friday apprised the Minister in-charge Urban Affairs on the grievances faced by people of the constituency.

The delegation in the meeting with the Minister discussed the encroachment of MUDA, denotification of census towns and shifting of dumping ground from Mawlai to a different location.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sawkmie said, “The meeting with the Minister was fruitful as he has assured us that he will take up all the three points put forward by us seriously.”

With regards to the encroachment of MUDA, he said the encroachment in the area of Mawlai has caused a lot of problems and difficulties for the people in and around Mawlai especially those houses MeECL have asked for No Objection Certificate (NOC) or building permission from MUDA.

He further said the MBCC requested the Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh to consider the age old practice adopted by the dorbar Shnong by allowing the headman to issue permission to resident wanting to construct a new house.

Stating that the if the department feels that the time has come to streamline the construction of new house in the state by adopting a new approach, he said, “The MBCC suggest that MUDA should continue to operate in Urban areas, whereas the areas outside Municipal, we suggest that the District Council should look into the matter since the Council have also framed its own building bye-laws.”

The MBCC has also demanded the denotification of 10 census towns which includes Mawlai, Nongkseh, Mawpat, Pynthorumkrah, Nongmensong, Nongthymmai, Umlyngka, Umpling, Lawsohtun and Madanryting.

On the demand to shifting of the dumping site located at Mawlai, he said, “The people of Mawlai constituency would like to urge the Urban Affairs department to consider shifting the present place of dumping of garbage at Marten to another location.”

He further said the MBCC looks forward that the department concern will take serious note of the grievances faced by the people of Mawlai and try to find out proper solutions to solve the problems at the earliest.
