The RBI kept the theme of the Financial Literacy Week 2022, Go Digital, Go Secure

Shillong, Feb 14: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been conducting Financial Literacy Week (FLW) every year since 2016 to propagate financial education messages on a particular theme across the country.

The FLW 2019, FLW 2020 and FLW 2021 were focused on “Farmers”, “MSMEs” and “Credit Discipline and Credit from Formal Institutions” respectively. This year, the Financial Literacy Week is being observed from February 14-18, 2022 on the theme “Go Digital, Go Secure”.

Mr. P. Gangte, General Manager and Officer-in-Charge of RBI, Shillongstated that RBI has been going to the villages, besides various blocks and district headquarters, of the State over the years and disseminating financial awareness messages by conducting FLCs, Townhall Meetings, Field Level Financial Literacy Events, etc.

He explained the theme of this year’s FL week i.e. “Go Digital, Go Secure”. He also explained the main features of Digital Financial Services, including “Anywhere, Anytime Transactions”, “Interoperability” and “Building of transaction histories for meaningful utilization to improve access to credit and relevant financial services to various target groups”.

He also mentioned the financial inclusion measures being undertaken by the Government of India and the RBI through various policy measures. The focus for this year will be on creating awareness about various aspects relating toConvenience of digital transactions, Security of digital transactions and Protection to customers.

The Chief Guest Shri P K Agrahari, Secretary (Finance), Government of Meghalaya appreciated the efforts of the Reserve Bank of India, discussed the theme of the FL Week with emphasis on security and protection to customers and wished the FLW 2022 a success.

Smti. uite, General Manager, NABARD, Shillong also spoke on the occasion and highlighted some of the efforts taken by NABARD towards financial inclusion. Shri Ramakrishna Chitturi, Joint Secretary (Finance), Government of Meghalaya discussed the security aspects of digital transactions and offered some suggestions for improvement.

Postersand leaflets in local languagesviz. Garo, Khasi and Pnar besides English and Hindi on the messages of the FLW 2022 i.e. Convenience and security of digital transactions and protection to customers have been provided to the banks and financial institutions for display in their premises and ATMs, distribution to their customers and public and for use during Financial Literacy Camps (FLCs) for wider dissemination.

Financial Awareness messages would also be displayed on the websites of banks, their ATMs, mobile applications and digital display boards at the bank branches. Financial Literacy Centres of banks have been instructed by RBI to conduct special FLCs extensively throughout the state during the week.

All the LDMs and DDMs have been requested to conduct FL camps across the State. All the banks operating in Meghalaya havealso been instructed to conduct FL camps across the State.

Flex banners on the theme of FL Week 2022 are provided to Lead District Managers, and District Development Managers (DDMs) for display in their office premises during the FL Week 2022.

In addition to other activities during the week, officials of RBI Shillong will participate in nineFinancial Literacy Camps conducted by the banks in various locations of the State. Theywould also be visiting 4 RSETIs in Mawphlang, Tura, Nongstoin and Umran to sensitize their trainees.
