This traditional food fest, is to preserve the identity and culture of the indigenous people

Khweng, August 27: The North East slow food and agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS) conducts festivals as celebration of food and culture, tradition, diversity and food system today at Khweng village in Ri Bhoi District. The objective of organizing this traditional food fest  is to preserved the identity and culture of the indigenous people.

The organization, strongly believes that these festivals are the ideal way of bringing people together to share their ideas, tradition knowledge, and showcasing their traditional produces, in a platform like this were people of the area come and participate.

Mini Mei Ramew festival, Khweng, was taken up as an initiative  by the community its participation in the indeginious TerraMandre (ITM) that was held in 2015, at Mawphlang where it was the oc-host along with more than 41 countries of the world.

Today in the mini Mei Ramew , that was held at Khweng village most of the participant are from the surrounding area, where they have participate in showcasing their traditional food that they are habituated to have them since time of memorial.

All stalls were organized in such a way that people who are coming to food festival tasted the original style of cocking of the people from the area. The festival was started with a short meeting from the organizer, and in the afternoon follows by the mega cultural show.
