Shillong, September 08: Today, the Special Cell of East Khasi Hills police averted a robbery in the district when a tip off was received of some ex-GNLA cadres planning to commit a robbery of a Petrol Pump on the Highway.
One of the members of the group, Mr Nobin D. Sangma of Tikrikilla Nidanpur was identified and on being interrogated he admitted to the fact that he was planning to commit robbery with two others. On his leading, two factory made .22 pistols and nine .22 live ammunition were recovered in a bamboo groove under a rock at Ward’s Lake.
He later led Police to two other ex-GNLA cadres who were part of the plot namely Salgra D. Sangma 18 years of Dalu, Magupara, West Garo Hills and Sengsang R. Marak 28 years of Resubelpara, North Garo Hills who were later also arrested.
A case is being registered under Arms Act and attempt to commit robbery. Interrogation is on to ascertain their involvement in other crimes.
