Shillong, November 07: Tomorrow is the 1st anniversary 08/11/2016 – 08/11/2017 of the horrific, horrendous demonetisation of Rs. 500/- and Rs. 1000/- notes by the NDA II Government under PM Narendra Modi.
Rev PBM Basaiawmoit said that his immediate thoughts went to the rural folks who used their pillow cases as the safe for keeping their hard earned money, earned by the sweat of their brow, bearing the brunt of the hot sun, inclement weather and they would put their heads over the pillow, the safest place and if anyone wants to rob, it’ll be over their dead bodies or having to slash their necks to decapitate them.
They didn’t trust banks and even if they do, the distance is too far away but demonetisation, forced them to trudge over to the distant branch of a bank. Unfortunately, no one believed that they had so much money as no one tried to find out that it was savings of decades not of hours and minutes. That was trumpeted as black money while the Panama Papers and the Paradise Papers have a different story to tell.
While ordinary folks had to queque up for hours and days to hand over demonetised currency to banks, a terrorist was caught with the new or remonetised Rs. 2000 note clutched in his dead fingers said Rev.Dr. P. B. M. Basaiawmoit in the press statement.
