Shillong, January 29: The Chief Minister Mukul Sangma statement that people ought to have faith in the police and the investigation process and that HDR Lyngdoh has not done anything wrong is but an attempt to mislead the public. How can people have faith in the investigation on the trafficking of a young girl in Marvelene Inn when this inn is owned and run by HDR Lyngdoh’s son and wife, Being the Home Minister all files of the investigation are directly accessible by him. Further, investigations, into the management and staff of this inn were not even initiated till an FIR was filed by TUR and CSWO.
Further just recently on 19th January newspapers reported that 3 more persons were arrested in connection with sexually exploiting this minor in the very same Marvelene Inn. This is reason enough for the inn to be completely shut down, all owners, management and staff to be throughly investigated because unlike what Mr HDR Lyngdohs son said, it was not an isolated case involving only one waiter from that inn. Marvelene inn seems to be a habitual place and a den of vice where such goings on regularly takes place. We demand again for HDR Lyngdoh’s stepping down and removal.TUR calls upon collective action to ensure this.
TUR condemns Mukul Sangma, the BJP and others for belittling women and children’s safety as being a mere party political game. The BJP is going on overdrive trying to damage control the fact that the BJP nominated Governor who was a senior RSS pracharak Mr Shanmuganathan was a victim of conspiracy.
TUR considers this BJP tactic cheap and shameful and condemns their attempt to belittle such a grave crime that this man was involved in. Commitment to ensuring justice for Crimes against women and children goes beyond party politics and the fact that these representatives lack foresight and a clear perspective on this means that we the people ought to hold them accountable for this lapse.
TUR also wishes to state that article 361 according immunity to governors no longer operates for Mr Shanmuganathan and hence speedy independent investigations into the sexual harassment case at the Raj Bhavan should begin in earnest.
