Ulfa-GNLA camp busted, near hinabat 3 killed in the encounter

Tura, Aug 22: Meghalaya police led by special weapons and tactics
(SWAT) commandos today gun downed three militants in an early morning
“hill storm” operation at Arbela range, near Chinabat in East Garo
Hills.

In the bullet exchange, which lasted for about 40 minutes, a civilian
sustained minor injury on his left shoulder. He has been identified as
Ronendro Marak. “A stray bullet hit him, while he was at home. He has
been given first aid and his condition is said to be normal”, said GHP
Raju, IGP (operation).

The camp located on a hill top deep inside the forest near Songma
Enggok village, falls under Williamnagar police station.

Superintendent of police, East Garo Hills, Davies Marak said, “Three
militant cadres were killed in the operation. Of which, two are
suspected to be from GNLA and one is suspected to be from ULFA”.

The GNLA cadres have been identified as Karamchan and Werang. The Ulfa
cadre is yet to be identified.

Police recovered a SLR two pistols, incriminating documents, SIM
cards, mobiles, and other personnel belongings from the spot.

Several militant cadres were also injured during the operation, who
has managed to escape taking advantage of the hilly terrain.
On August 19, most wanted Ulfa cadre, Babul Rabha alias Kancha, IED
expert was arrested from Chandmari locality in Tura. He was involved
in series of blast in Goalpara district of Assam. He was on a mission
led by Ulfa top brass Dhristi Rajkhowa to unleash terror in Garo
hills.
On August 20, two over ground GNLA cadre were arrested between Rongram
and Tebronggre in West Garo Hills.  They have been identified as
Walsang T Sangma, 26 and Amit Marak, 32, who is also the president of
Garo Students Union Chibinang unit.  Police has recovered Rs. 19,000
from their possession.(SP News)
