Vodafone India, on Friday launched its SuperNetwork 4G services in Meghalaya

Shillong January 21: Vodafone India, on Friday launched its SuperNetwork 4G services in Meghalaya at the State Convention Centre. The services will be available across major cities and towns of Assam and North East Circles by March 2017.

Delivering a speech at the launch function, Chief Guest Ampareen Lyngdoh Minister Information and Technology, said, “Internet has become very relevant and I’m happy that in a period where there is tremendous change in our transaction mode we have such service provider like Vodafone who come and assisted the people in making that transition a little less nightmarish for the people.”

Observing that being young and savvy is a very important component of being a politician, she said “I for one try to keep up with the fast changing trends of communication as we have just seen in the new communication style in the UP elections I’m very certain that Meghalaya will not be far behind.”

She said that over and above entertainment the 4G services comes along with other packages where there will hopefully be a better opportunity especially for the remotely placed regions of the State to be part of the information world.

“The famous Vodafone pug is now a household pride in many residents here in the state. We are keen imitators of main land India and very often we tend to overtake main land India in many aspects and I hope this opportunity once delivered to the people will become an added boost to not just the young people but to all the citizens in general,” she said adding in this day an age of online transactions for every works of life it has become quite essential for all of us to be connected and there is no better way to connect us than the famous pug.

She further urged Vodafone to make the transition from 3G to 4G SIM cards for all its customers in the state an easy process.

Earlier, Alok Verma Business Head Assam- North East Circle said, “Meghalaya happens to be the highest consumers of data and the 4G handset users is rapidly growing in Shillong and the data consumption in the city is 187 percent.”

He informed that in 2008 when Vodafone started investing in Meghalaya they had invested more than Rs.220 crores and at present the service provider has covered about 50 percent of the state’s population with customer strength of 5.5 Million in the North East region.

According to him, Vodafone has created employment opportunities for more than 75, 000 people in the North East.

He pointed out that the up gradation from 3G SIMs to 4G SIMs is free of cost and the whole process takes about 10 minutes and Vodafone users can walk in to any of its outlets, stores or mini-stores to get their SIMs up graded and the user in turn will get 2GB 3G/4G of data free.
