We should not rely on reservation; we live in the world of competition: Smti Debora

Sohra, October 12: The minister in-charge Education and Literacy Smti Debora Ch Marak speaking as the chief quest at the function,at  Sohra TWA Presbyterian Lower Primary School in the Dosquicentennial celebration jubilee she said “we should not rely on the reservation since we are living in this world of competition, this is my message as the education minister to all students”.

The minister  also lamented that Shillong, that was consider as the educational hub of the North East Region  now has lost this glory, from the government would like to regain back this glory by taking up new indicative so that students form others state will come to Meghalaya to pursue their higher studies.

In this gathering, the minister went on to say that “ if you don’t get admission in good school and colleges outside the state, shillong had all the good school and colleges why go outside”. If  any student want to go outside the   state  for higher studies they should understand the spirit of competition, they should get 95% above , do not depend on the reservation quota.

On the memorandum submitted by the Sohra TWA Presbyterian Lower Primary School, the minister assure that she will see what can be done for the up-liftmen of this school. “ I have not read it, but  I assure that the government will sourly  render it’s assistance”.

The Minister admit that “ What we are today in the education is due to the hard work of the missionary who has come to our state, like Rev  Thomas Jones who is the father of the Khasi alphabet, my gratitude goes to them ”. The  Sohra TWA Presbyterian Lower Primary School is celebrating today 175 years, this happen due to the hard work and dedication of all teachers who had thought in this school.

The minister also inspected St John Girls School Sohra, and the Maurice Patrick King memorial Secondary Scholl at Laitryngew before she went to attend the Dosquicentennial celebration jubilee of the Sohra TWA Presbyterian Lower Primary School and interact with the students of this school.

Others who spoke in the gathering include the Local MLA  Mr T.W Chyne, the Local MDC Mr D Wahlang, the Syiem of hima Sohra, and many church leaders from the Presbyterian Church. The brief history about the scholl was narrated by Smti LM Diengdoh one of the student of this school.
